pelvic floor exercises for women
Pelvic floor exercises, also known as Kegel exercises, can help strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor in women. These muscles support the bladder, uterus, and rectum. To do Kegel exercises, women can:
- Locate the correct muscles by stopping the flow of urine mid-stream.
- Tighten and hold these muscles for a count of three, then relax for a count of three.
- Repeat this exercise for several repetitions, gradually working up to holding the contractions for a count of 10.
- Incorporate Kegel exercises into daily routine such as while sitting in traffic or watching tv.
It's important to note that it's not recommended to do Kegel exercises while urinating because it can lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder and increase the risk of urinary tract infections.
